There. I said it.
And actually, there are plenty of holidays where you don’t need one.
I recently heard someone say they hadn’t used a travel agent for their last few trips because they were straightforward. They needed the flights that were obvious online, an easy transfer, and a hotel they already knew. Simply pull up the details, enter the credit card- done.
And honestly? Why would you add a travel agent into that equation?
If the trip is straightforward, you don’t necessarily want another person in the mix. And you certainly don’t want to pay a fee or a margin for someone to sit between you and a website when you could have simply opened your laptop and booked it yourself.
That’s not anti-travel-agent. That’s just being realistic.
Because I think sometimes the honest answer is that some trips you can just do easily yourself.
Because you’re more than capable or creating your fabulous holiday without any help.
But here’s where I think the conversation gets interesting…
It’s not about whether you’re capable of doing it yourself. It’s about what you gain when someone else is looking at the bigger picture.
Shut down all the broswers. Close the conflicting reviews. Turn off the endless noise of well-meaning recommendations.
Simplify. Streamline. Outsource.
Let someone else carry the load and the logistics. Let someone else connect the dots. And when something changes (airlines – we’re pointing at you and your uncanny ability to be unreliable), let someone else deal with the problem.
Sometimes the value isn’t in having someone book the trip for you. It’s is not having to deal with it anymore.
And receiving an email to say, “Hey guess what? -We secured better rates on this one!” is just the icing on the cake.
