As a travel agent, I’ve learned one thing over the years – travel insurance is one of the most essential things you can buy when planning your next adventure. In fact, I love how our customers are usually proactive about asking for travel insurance. When I first started my little travel business, I thought, “No one buys travel insurance! People tend to spend all their money on the holiday itself and skip the insurance.” Boy, was I wrong. More often than not, travellers approach me and ask for a quote before I even mention it.
And here’s the thing—during my time in the travel industry, I’ve been amazed at how often our customers need to put in an insurance claim. Even more surprising? How few (if any!) claims are rejected. This has given me a lot of confidence in travel insurance. It’s clear to me that, as a customer, you’re in a really good position when you take that extra step to protect your holiday.
Real-Life Claims We’ve Worked On
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege (and sometimes the misfortune) of helping customers with their insurance claims. Here are just a few examples of claims that have come through our office:
✈ Camera left behind at the airport – Sadly, never to be seen again.
✈ Last-minute travel diversion due to unexpected weather events, resulting in new accommodation, flights, and transfers.
✈ Airline goes bust, cancels flights, and fails to reimburse.
✈ Flight changes that weren’t covered by the airline.
✈ iPhone drops into water on a boat excursion (talk about a sinking feeling!).
✈ Lost luggage – Always a nightmare, but insurance made the difference.
✈ Cancelled flights due to a medical condition that prevented travel.
Now, as a travel agent, I can’t guarantee what claims will be paid out. That decision is ultimately up to the insurance company. However, I can tell you that in every single one of the situations above, the claims were accepted. What’s even better? The claims process was super straightforward, and in all these cases, the situation was completely unexpected for the traveller.
My Advice? Always Get Travel Insurance
You never know when something could go wrong on your holiday. That’s why my advice is simple: always take out travel insurance. You might be surprised at how easy it is to put in a claim, how quickly things can be sorted out, and how much financial relief it can offer in difficult situations. It’s not just about the big disasters – sometimes it’s the small things that matter, too.
At Chasing Dreams Travel, we work with two travel insurance companies, but we primarily sell Allianz insurance for a variety of reasons. You don’t even need to have booked your travel with us for us to arrange your insurance. We’re always here to help make sure you’re covered, no matter where your travels take you.
So, the next time you’re planning a trip, remember this: protect your holiday. Travel insurance might just be the safety net you never knew you needed!
Happy travels, everyone!
